Aksys Games has published the first English trailer for its upcoming tri-Ace developed JRPG Exist Archive: The Other Side of the Sky. I know tri-Ace isn’t really on everyone’s good terms at the moment due to the poor reception of Star Ocean: Integrity and Faithlessness, but hear me out! This one will be a much better game.
I remember last year, playing both titles at Tokyo Game Show 2015, and I walked away feeling nothing but a whole lot of “Meh” for Star Ocean. I should have taken that as a warning sign, but I tried to spin those into positive feelings. Forcing it obviously didn’t help. However, that same show I also walked away from Exist Archive with a much better impression, and I called it my surprise hit of the show.
The game is modeled after tri-Ace’s indisputable masterpiece Valkyrie Profile, incorporating many of the same platforming and combat ideas. The jumping my be a bit floaty and the story has a few bat-crazy issues, but on the whole, it felt like a very unique JRPG that could do a great job standing out on the modern market.

I remember getting a serious “dark horse” vibe from Shadow of Mordor two years back, and I have the same hopeful feeling in my gut for this one. Not “Game of the Year” quality like that game was, but still a memorable title on its own level.
Exist Archive: The Other Side of the Sky launches for the PlayStation 4 and PS Vita on Oct. 18.
